Senators Reportedly Sign Forward Nate Thompson

Ottawa have made their first splash in unrestricted free agency.

The NHL’s free agent frenzy will begin in just under 15 minutes, but the Senators reportedly have already dipped their toes in the water.

Multiple reports suggest the Senators have signed depth forward Nate Thompson.

And TSN’s Aaron Ward has more details. The Senators’ newest forward will be making an average of $1.65 million during two years in the nation’s capital.

Thompson was in and out of the AHL last season, but did have a respectable playoff run with the Anaheim Ducks. The 32-year-old recorded 2 goals and 4 assists in 17 postseason games.

Thompson does have a connection to Ottawa. Just like his new teammate Tom Pyatt, he is a favourite of head coach Guy Boucher. Thompson played five seasons in Tampa Bay and was present for Boucher’s full tenure with the Lightning.

The Anchorage, Alaska native has 48 goals and 63 assists in 550 games.
