Senators Sign Macoy Erkamps to Entry Level Contract
Brandon Wheat Kings captain attended Sens 2013 Dev Camp
The Senators announced the signing of undrafted free agent d-man Macoy Erkamps to an entry level contract this morning. Erkamps previously attended the Senators summer development camp in 2013, so this is not the first time the team has shown interest in him. In fact, Bryan Murray says they've kept an eye on him through his junior career.
His current season with the Wheat Kings has been a breakout one, more than doubling his previous career high in points. This puts him second overall among D in the WHL, behind his Brandon teammate Ivan Provorov. It is worth noting, however, that this is as an over-ager - a 20 (now 21) year old in a league of mostly teenagers. Take the size of the breakout with a grain of salt due to that.
The Wheat Kings are currently tied 2-2 in their first round playoff series against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Erkamps has two assists so far in the series.
The contract is three years and two-way (both set by the CBA), but the dollar value was not announced.
