Borowiecki’s next contract holds an AAV of $1.2 million, which, right now, would keep his status of the fourth highest paid blueliner on the team.
In explaining the club’s decision to sign the 28-year-old to an extension, general manager Pierre Dorion cited Borowiecki’s league-leading 364 hits last season - Matt Martin finished in second place with 300 - and the fact that he’s a hometown player.
In other news, Erik Karlsson is currently missing from the morning skate, but Dorion says he is hopeful that the captain will play Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings.
Puck drop tonight is 7:30 p.m. when the Senators take on the Washington Capitals in the home opener.
