Senators Sign and Reassign Thomas Chabot, Send Seven More to Bingo
1st round pick signed to a 3 year ELC before being reassigned
With news breaking yesterday that Thomas Chabot was not likely to play another pre-season game this year, it was expected his reassignment to the QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs was going to happen at any point. The reassignment came this morning, but Chabot gets a great parting gift in the form of a three year entry level contract. The deal is a max level ELC - $925k NHL salary, $70k AHL salary.
Chabot is widely considered to have had a very good camp, and the team obviously agreed given this contract and the delay in sending him back to junior. He looked excellent when paired with Karlsson against Toronto, and still looked pretty good in Buffalo without Karlsson as his partner.
Unfortunately the CHL-NHL transfer rules, Chabot will not be eligible for the AHL until the 2017-18 season so we'll likely be having the CHL or NHL debate with him again next year.
Update: The Sens also cut seven other players, all bound for the AHL. Max McCormick, Matt O’Connor and Nick Paul have been reassigned to Bingo, while Fredrik Claesson, Michael Kostka, Eric O’Dell and Zack Stortini all have to clear waivers tomorrow before being officially reassigned.
