Sens Close Out the Season with 6-2 Loss to the Blue Jackets
A meaningless result to a meaningless game
The end is finally here. This dreadful season has finally ended, and it wasn’t pretty. While most fans had already zoned out at this point, it still seems odd to say goodbye to the team until next October. For fan appreciation night, it would have been nice to close out the season with a decent game but as with the entire season, the Sens delivered a disappointing result.
The Blue Jackets quickly took a leap over the Sens when Pierre-Luc Dubois opened the scoring with less than 4 minutes in to make it 1-0. The rest of the period ended being filled with lazy plays and disastrous turnovers. The Blue Jackets made it 2-0 after Oliver Bjorkstrand dances through Mark Borowiecki to make the perfect pass to Markus Nutivaara.
Dubois added another to make it 3-0 after bad plays by Gibbons and DeMelo and that was the end of the night for Craig Anderson.
The period ended at 3-0 with the Sens outshot 14-9.
The second period didn’t deliver much promise. Thomas Chabot gave us all some false hope with a goal at the 8:35 mark but that 3 goal lead was restored a few minutes later by Alexander Texier. Good for Texier scoring his first NHL goal in only his second game with the big club, although it’s against the Sens so it was a bit expected.
The period ended with a score of 4-1 and the Sens outshooting the Blue Jackets 11-4!
The final period of the season was a long 20 minute period where I think most fans and players just wanted the game to end. Mikkel Boedker once again reminded us that yes he still does exist on this team and scored a goal to make it 4-2. Once again, it didn’t take much long for the Blue Jackets to restore the large lead on a goal by Bjorkstrand as a result of another terrible turnover. The game ended with an empty netter from Riley Nash in the most Ottawa fashion possible.
Notable Performances
- Can’t say I can pick positives out of this game so instead I just want to give a shoutout to all the fans who put through with this team this season. It’s been a tough season for everyone and I salute every fan who attended the game tonight or watched the game from home, you’re all the greatest REAL fans and the heart and soul of this team!
- Craig Anderson: not the greatest game, but I really hope this isn’t his final game as a member of the Ottawa Senator. It’s been a great 9 seasons that I hope end with the beast mode goalie retiring in the capital city.
- Brady Tkachuk: the bright spot of the season, the one who always puts a smile on our faces. What a great rookie season it’s been and hopefully it’s only an upward trend from hereon.
- Thomas Chabot: the boss, plain and simple. Tonight and every night./
