Silver Nuggets: Playing Boston/Capitals/Habs
As I was the one the other day who suggested the sky wasn't falling, I'm looking towards the playoffs today and the teams we could play.
In the Friday edition of the Nuggets, I want to take a look at the three teams we could end up playing.
Washington Capitals: As of right now, the Senators would be in the 6th spot, and would play the winner of the SouthLeast division. Now if you had told Sens fans that two weeks ago that they could play the winner of that division, they would have kissed you. Now, all of a sudden Alex Ovechkin is the best goal scorer in the NHL again and the Caps are 8-1-1 in the last 10 games. Scary. However with the unspectacular goaltending and defensive unit, it still remains a favourable matchup.
Boston Bruins: While it seems unlikely that the Senators will catch their Ontario rival Leafs for the 5th position in the conference, there is still a chance that the Bruins will catch the Canadiens for top spot in the Northeast division. This would be extremely bad news for the Senators. While the Bruins are severely shorthanded (not Patrice Bergeron, no Brad Marchand, no Chris Kelly, etc) they are still the Bruins. They still have Zdeno Chara (who will likely play 30 minutes a night in the playoffs), they still have the deepest forward group in the NHL, and Tuuka Rask is having a hell of a season. Oh, and they are the Bruins, which means they OWN the Senators, and have for the past several years. This would not be an ideal matchup, so you may want to start cheering for the Canadiens (ya, you can vomit now).
Montreal Canadiens: The aforementioned Habs are the third team the Senators could end up facing. If the Senators were to finish 7th in the conference, it would be likely that they'll play the Canadiens. The Canadiens are an interesting team. They have played very well this year, and while they do not have a superstar up front (like the Caps), Carey Price and PK Subban have been the big stories in MTL. Subban is being celebrated for leading the league in goals by a d-man and for leading his team in scoring and this makes me sad because I remember what thats like. This is the matchup I would love to see, I think it would really build up a rivalry between the Habs and the Sens.
Who would you like to see the Sens play? Which team do we have the best chance against?
