Silver Nuggets: Which is More Likely Series: Zibanejad vs Stone
Yesterday we looked at two superstars in the league, Steven Stamkos and Evgeni Malkin and tried to figure out what their seasons would look like. It was certainly the closest vote we have had in some time, with 55% of you saying it was more likely that Stamkos hit 50 goals than Malkin hitting 100 points. Many of you made some good points, but ultimately Big Slice put it best:
This IS a tough one... but I voted Stamkos
I see Crosby's new contract as an automatic demotion for Geno back to the second line. And with the loss of Staal, that could mean a bit more pressure on him to produce, since they likely won't be getting those same numbers from their third line anymore.
Stamkos, on the other hand doesn't seem to have a problem hitting 50 a year... hell, even 60 didn't seem to give him too much trouble. While teams will obviously be focusing on him during the games, it's not like they aren't already doing that. He seems to have found a way around tough d-men, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
But this comment from JonathanA is probably my favourite from the whole series:
Bleagh
Tough one.
...There you have it!
Today we turn our focus back to the boys who wear red, black and gold. Or rather, a couple of boys who hope to be wearing it at the NHL level this year: Mika Zibanejad and Mark Stone. Both are top prospects for the team going forward and both got a taste of the NHL last season. Here is today's question:
Which is more likely? That Mark Stone plays in at least 15 NHL games OR that Mika Zibanejad manages to get more than 10 NHL points?
Stone: The team has high hopes for this former late round pick, and after torching the WHL the last couple of seasons he looks to turn pro this season. But with an older Jakob Silfverberg ahead of him on the depth chart, how much NHL action will he see?
Zibanejad: The most discussed of all Sens prospects, Mika is talked about in many trade rumours, but as of right now he will be a Senator in the fall, be that Bingo or Ottawa. He has played well at Sweden's WJC camp, can he put up some points in whatever NHL action he'll see this season?
Let me know your thoughts!

- Peter dabbles in the notion of seeing the Stanley Cup awarded in another league if the NHL cancels another season. I think it would be weird to see... and I don't like thinking about a lost season, but this is a cool idea! [SSS]
