Stanley Cup Playoffs, day fourteen: Canucks look to avoid collapse; Montreal firefighters on standby
There are three massive games tonight in the NHL. They should all be great games, or at least games with plenty of drama and one of them will very likely go into overtime. The NHL playoffs have had an overtime for seven straight days, with April 18th being the last day without an extra period (or two).
The Silver Seven Game of the Night (brought to you by Booster Juice, the official smoothie supplier of Silver Seven Sens) features the Chicago Blackhawks visiting the Vancouver Canucks. Here are my comments on each game:
8) Chicago Blackhawks at 1) Vancouver Canucks (10:00 p.m. on CBC, series tied 3-3)
The Blackhawks are looking to become only the fourth club in NHL history to come back from a 3-0 deficit. The third club, the Philadelphia Flyers, accomplished the feat last season. The Blackhawks will start rookie goaltender Corey Crawford, while the Canucks will counter with backup Roberto Luongo after All-Star Cory Schneider hurt himself on a penalty shot. Oh wait. Right.
This game starts at 10:00 and I have to work tomorrow, but I will definitely watch. Please don't go to overtime though. Please!
Adnan prediction: Canucks win; Adnan hopes: Blackhawks win
3) Boston Bruins at 6) Les Canadiens de Montréal (7:00 p.m. on CBC, Bruins lead 3-2)
Well this is just spectacular. The Montreal fans were riding high after winning the first two games on the road. Since then, the Bruins have pulled off three straight wins, including the last two in overtime. Montreal also blew a 2-0 lead in 2006 after winning the first two games in Carolina.
Tim Thomas will get the call for Boston tonight, going up against Carey Price. Price has not won a home playoff since April 24, 2008. That's over three years! Since then, he's gone 0-7 in home playoff games with a 4.02 GAA and stopping 87.3% of shots.
Adnan prediction: Bruins win; Adnan hopes: Bruins win
7) Buffalo Sabres at 2) Philadelphia Flyers (7:30 p.m. on TSN, series tied 3-3)
Well, this has been a fun series. The Flyers have started three different goalies. Brian Boucher will start tonight while Sergei Bobrovsky is the backup. This means both Bobrovsky and Leighton will have been starting, backing up, or not dressed at least once in this series. Ryan Miller will start for Buffalo.
Here's another interesting fact: the Flyers are 0-2 when they allow only 1 goal, but they are 2-1 when they allow 4 goals. It's been a rough series with plenty of controversy. In terms of pure hockey, this might be the best game of the night.
Adnan prediction: Flyers win; Adnan hopes: Flyers win
Who do you think will win tonight? Who do you want to win tonight?
