Sterling Off-Season Predictions: Management Additions
The Silver Seven staff take a crack at predicting the outcome of some off-season situations facing the Senators
Will Daniel Alfredsson join the Senators management this off-season? If so, what role?
Richard: Not this offseason, maybe later on in the year, but I see it as a nice option that’s probably a season or two away. I could see him stepping into a few roles, but I think something in coaching or scouting would make the most sense for him.
Ross: No. The earliest he joins is summer 2016. I think he's looking forward to a full year with his family before he decides his next steps.
Amelia: Initially I thought Alfie would take a few years away from the club after retiring but starting to think we might see him sooner. The club's leadership (Reeds, Murray, Melnyk) have had a hell of the time battling serious injury. The Sens are handling things internally, but there's a lot of young guys on this team and someone like Alfie might spend more time in Ottawa this season in an unofficial role (or an official, but not duty-heavy role) picking up the slack a little and calming the ship. I'm generally not for "veteran leadership" if that leadership deserves to be a healthy scratch, but if Phillips can't go this season, I think it would be a shame for the organization to lose him. He's got almost 20 years of Sens institutional memory and with more change coming at some point to the Sens leadership/management group, having Phillips remain in the fold (as a coach, pro scout, dude-who-hangs-out-at-the-rink-after-losing-his-job-like-Paul MacLean-but-the-team-still-wants-him-around)
Michaela: No. Daniel Alfredsson will join Sens management one day, but not this summer. I think it's more likely to see him join the club next year. That being said, if he happened to sign on this year, I would not have a problem with it.
Adnan: No he will not.
Ary: I don’t think Alfie joins this year, especially while management is in such a volatile state, but I definitely see him as a Hockey Ops guy in the future. I’m thankful that we can even have this discussion.
B_T: A few months ago I would have said "probably not", but I'm not so sure now. After being around the team during the playoffs, and reportedly being involved in getting Matt O'Connor signed, it looks like it will happen sooner than I had thought. In the end though, I don't think it happens during this off-season. As for what role it eventually is, I really have no idea. I don't think it will be scouting, though.
