Thursday LNN: A New NHL Collab, Maurice Extended and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- If you're a Lululemon fan, you'll enjoy this latest NHL collaboration. Lululemon announced this week that it will team up with Fanatics to create a brand-new NHL line of apparel. The release teaser featured Connor Bedard, John Tavares, and Matty Beniers. I suspect this release will be very well received.
- The Florida Panthers are liking what they're getting from Paul Maurice. The Stanley Cup-winning coach has just been extended to a multi-year contract as a reward for his hard work helping build up a Panthers team that looks to be competitive for the next little while.
- After a questionable hit from Toronto's Oliver Ekman-Larsson on Jake Guentzal from Tampa Bay, the NHL decided a fine was enough. Ekman-Larsson has been hit with the highest maximum amount of $5,000.
- Rory Boylen from Sportsnet had an article this week about each team's Good and Bad News. He mentioned the good start by Jake Sanderson and Tim Stützle which I think we can all agree on. For the "bad" side of things, he mentioned the lack of 5-on-5 goals for the Sens which is something worth noting. However, he did mention the Sens rely on Ullmark too much, which I found interesting considering he's only played 2 games so far, but I guess Forsberg will need work harder to earn the recognition.
- The Winnipeg Jets are on the top of the Power Rankings and the standings as they remain to be the only team unbeaten in the 2024/2025 season. The Ottawa Senators ranked 15 but are expected to rise a few slots, especially with Ullmark's imminent return.
- Bryan Little is officially retiring as a Winnipeg Jet after signing a one-day deal in September but the Jets had his goodbye party this week during their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and it was quite emotional for everyone involved. Bryan Little was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2006 had a career-ending injury in 2019. He's been dealing with the surgeries and recovering and now he's ready to close this chapter.
