Thursday LNN: Matthews in Germany, New PWHL rules and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- The Toronto Maple Leafs are doing well without their new Captain but having Matthews out of the lineup for an extended period of time won't end well for them. This week, it was reported that Auston Matthews and the Leafs' head physician travelled to Germany to deal with his upper-body injury. The Leafs maintain that it is a routine visit and that Matthews should return to the team soon.
- Speaking of the Leafs, it seems Ryan Reaves is having a bad week. Not only did he get a 5-game suspension but his team has also restricted him from speaking about the hit or suspension to the media.
- J.T Miller has taken a leave of absence to address a personal issue. The team would like fans not to speculate about causes and are focusing on supporting Miller at this time.
- The PWHL has released a new set of rules in preparation for their second season. Some highlights include an automatic major penalty and game misconduct for any illegal check to the head. Another interesting addition is the "no-escape" rule where the team taking a penalty will not be allowed to make a change until after the face-off.
- During his visit to Ottawa this week, Gary Bettman discussed the new LeBreton flats arena. While he seemed happy about the progress and gave rave reviews on the eventual plans, it seems he understood the logistics of large projects in Ottawa and is subtly saying that this process may take a long time to come to life due to "different layers".
- The Boston Bruins are not happy with the way their season has started and they decided they need to deal with any issues early on. The team announced that head coach Jim Montgomery was relieved of his duties and replaced by assistant coach Joe Sacco on an interim basis.
- As the Ottawa Charge season inches closer to its start, we would like to announce that our very own Beata will be front and center providing French coverage with La Brigade. Stay on the lookout for more updates on Monday!
