Thursday LNN: Ekblad Suspended, Fastest OT Goal and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- It's a good thing the Florida Panthers are in a safe position to make the playoffs. After losing Matthew Tkachuk to the 4-Nations injury, they secured Seth Jones and Brad Marchand as reinforcements. Then they got faced with another huge loss as Aaron Ekblad now faces a 20-game suspension that will see him miss the rest of the regular season and 2 playoff games. Ekblad's suspension comes as a result of violating the NHL and NHL Players' Association's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
- The Seattle Kraken beat the Montreal Canadiens last night and they did it in style. It only took Brandon Montour 4 seconds to score the OT winner, making this an NHL record for the fastest OT goal in NHL history.
- Cody Ceci is making some noise in the NHL. He hasn't been able to stay put in one place for too long, but his recent trade to the Dallas Stars may have earned him a nice little feat. Should Ceci play in the remaining regular season games, he will have played 85 games in an 82-game season. He's always been a guy to do things his own way.
- Rasmus Dahlin is one of the Buffalo Sabres' most prized assets. After everything that happened with Jack Eichel, the last thing they want is another disgruntled star. Luckily, Dahlin is quickly shutting down any rumours that he wants an exit from the Sabres team that signed him to 8 lucrative years.
- The Hockey Hall of Fame will have an extra piece of jewelry to display. The Florida Panthers donated one of their Cup rings to the Hall of Fame with their visit this week. The ring will be part of the Panthers exhibition before it's moved to Lord Stanley's vault.
