Thursday LNN: Canadian TV Deal, Playoff Bound and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- The NHL and Rogers have agreed to a broadcast deal that promises fewer regional blackouts. Rogers has stated they will strongly consider continuing the streaming deal with Amazon.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes are the latest teams to book their post into the elusive fight for the Stanley Cup.
- The Edmonton Oilers are getting a European boost. The team announced this week that they have signed gifted German forward Josh Samanski along with Czech centre David Tomasek.
- At this point, there doesn't seem to be any doubt that Alexander Ovechkin will break Wayne Gretzky's record, or at least tie, this season. In the Capitals' loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last night, Ovi scored his 892nd goal, moving him just 2 goals away from tying Gretzky.
- The Sens have consistently found themselves in the top 16 NHL teams the past few months and it's no different this week. They are in the 15th spot with a fitting goal of "get it done".
- An investigation into a sexual assault involving a Junior A team is sparking the conversation on who should handle the complaint. Since the allegations occurred during the off-season, the owner of the Brockville Braves, whose players are involved, is claiming this should be a police matter and not a Hockey Canada investigation.
