Thursday LNN: Western Canada Trading, Toronto Rinks Upgrades and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes!
- Hot off the presses: as we were watching the Sens get underneath deeper levels of the Red Wings' skin, Western Canada was having itself a business transaction. The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a package that includes Andrei Kuzmenko, a 2024 first-round pick, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo, and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick.
- As part of an NHL All-Star Legacy Program, three Toronto rinks will be the beneficiaries of a $500,000 award to upgrade and modify the rinks.
- Things are going very well in Vancouver and when that happens, people get rewarded. The Canucks signed Patrik Allvin to a 3-year extension to remain on as GM after the team has seen some huge success this year.
- Phil Kessel is not done playing hockey. While the UFA is still looking for a new home, he has not given up on playing this season. It appears he has been in talks with several teams and he will probably get something figured out by the trade deadline as teams look for some veteran experience as playoff rentals.
- Akim Aliu is speaking out once again, this time to expose the lack of action from Kim Davis, the NHL's VP of social impact, growth initiatives, and legislative affairs, who has allegedly made promises to Aliu that were never kept. According to Aliu, conversations that took place with Davis completely changed in tone once Gary Bettman was involved and claims there have been efforts from the NHL to silence the HDA.
- A junior hockey fight escalated when it seemed a player took additional liberties resulting in a goalie left motionless on the ice. An investigation into the aggression by Eithan Grishin on goalie Evan Paul during a PJHL game has been launched.
