Thursday LNN: Canucks' Turmoil, Utah's Rebrand and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- By now, the Vancouver Canucks should have figured out a way to mitigate the public damage from all the JT Miller/Elias Pettersson rumours. Instead, the owner poured the maximum amount of gasoline onto the fire. At this point, there is no scenario where both players finish the season in Vancouver.
- The Utah Hockey Club are looking for a more permanent brand. After months of consideration (and being denied the use of "Yeti"), they have narrowed their new name options to Utah Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club and Utah Wasatch. To involve the fans and community as much as possible, the fans will get a chance to vote for their favourite name in the next 4 home games.
- Brady Tkachuk is excited to play alongside his brother Matthew in the upcoming 4-Nations Tournament. You can listen to him on this week's episode of The Rink podcast.
- Drew Doughty hasn't played a game since his ankle injury in a preseason game. This week, the veteran defenseman will debut for the LA Kings.
- Team Canada may not be giving goalie Logan Thompson his due but the Washington Capitals surely know his value. The team announced this week that they have signed Thompson to a 6-year deal worth an AAV of $5.85M.
- On behalf of the Silver Seven team and the entire Sens community, we would like to extend our condolences to the Shawn Simpson family. We are heartbroken to learn of his passing this morning. Simpson was a key part of the Ottawa and Senators community and was respected by all those who met or dealt with him. He is part of many great memories and his passion for the Sens and Ottawa was reflected in everything he did.
