Thursday LNN: Leafs Leadership Change, Colin White Fights on and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- It is now official, Auston Matthews is the new Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. What happened to John Tavares you ask? Well, I had the same question and while he's still on the team, will be wearing the "A" and playing his role as the supportive team member very well, this move could be an indication of what's to come. The excitement around Tavares in Toronto reached unbearable levels but it does seem the charm didn't last as long as either side had hoped for. It will be interesting to see how the new dynamics end up working for the Leafs.
- It seemed that many have given up on Colin White and there were several rumours around him retiring early after struggling to really make an impact on the NHL level the past few seasons. While it's not the NHL deal he probably hoped for, White isn't leaving the game just yet. This week the AHL's San Jose Barracuda announced that they had signed the former Senator to a deal this season.
- Ryan Getzlaf is moving on from the Anaheim Ducks and taking a role with the NHL. It was announced yesterday that Getzlaf would be joining the NHL's department of player safety.
- The Edmonton Oilers are struggling with their salary cap and other teams know it. The St Louis Blues decided to stir the pot by handing out a pair of offer sheets to two of the Oilers' players, Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. The Oilers have until Tuesday to respond to both offers.
