Thursday LNN: Team Canada Trial, PWHL New Rules and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- The five players accused of being involved in the 2018 sexual assault case have elected a trial by jury. Their request has been granted once a trial (yet to be announced) starts.
- The PWHL is impressing many hockey fans in its inaugural season with folks filling arenas. Other than the great skill and personality displayed by the players, the league is also providing a different and unique perspective to the game. We've all heard of the famous jailbreak goal and now the PWHL is injecting some more new ideas into the game. Yesterday, the PWHL announced its playoff and draft format and many fans are enjoying the concept of the first-place team picking their opponent. Also: Gold Drafting!
- Trade season has begun! The Calgary Flames traded defenceman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for prospect Artem Grushnikov, a 2024 second-round draft pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick.
- Winnipeg fought hard to get their Jets back and at the beginning things looked very promising. Now, the owner is worried about his attendance numbers saying these numbers won't sustain the team long-term. While Gary Bettman confirms there is nothing to worry about, a Canadian team that is doing well pulling Coyotes-esque numbers has people wondering.
- Sidney Crosby doesn't seem to have an expiry date. He continues to set milestones and records and his most recent? He is now the 9th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 regular season even strength points and the fourth fastest player to reach that mark.
- If Sens fans had their eyes on Juuse Saros, they may need to lower their expectations. While anything can happen and NHL team management can rarely be trusted but it seems the Predators are planning to hold on to Saros, at least for the foreseeable future.
