Thursday LNN: The Matthews Dilemma, Pizza Line Reunion and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- Do the Maple Leafs need Auston Matthews? As Matthews missed his eighth straight game, the Leafs were soaring to a 7-2 record. While Matthews is considered one of the best goal-scorers in the league, this record doesn't bode well for the captain. It is doing wonders for Mitch Marner, whose stock has risen significantly this season, which may eventually put the Leafs in a tough spot trying to retain him.
- The Ottawa Senators are trying to make amends with their past and this time it will be very exciting. On December 5th, the Sens will welcome back the infamous Pizza Line trio of Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, and Dany Heatley. It's going to be a nostalgic night for many fans who have surely missed the glory days.
- While the official roster will be released on December 4th, this is what the Four Nations Team Canada roster is shaping up. The goalie squad is not looking very elite at the moment.
- The PWHL will be kicking off their second season this Saturday. They come into this season with new branding and high expectations. Several teams will be changing venues to accommodate the projected increased attendance. Can the PWHL keep the momentum of last season going? We sure hope so.
- After receiving a match penalty, New Jersey Devils' Timo Meier was suspended for one game for cross-checking Zachary L'Heureux in the face.
- If you haven't seen it yet, you need to. What is being called one of the worst own-goals happened last night between the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning. Capitals goalie Charlie Lindgren completely fumbled a pass straight into his net giving the Bolts a lead and Brayden Point a goal. Luckily for Lindgren, the Capitals managed to win the game and they can now just laugh about it.
