Thursday LNN: Trade Talks, Draft Rankings and More
Thursday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- We still have over a month to go before the trade deadline but we know there always is one big trade that comes early to show off. The Vancouver Canucks are the highlight of the season with talks about potential landing places for JT Miller.
- In case you haven't heard yet, the NHL dared to suspend Connor McDavid and the hockey world is not taking it very well. While the 3-game suspension may seem harsh, the reactions to it, including a dramatic statement by the Oilers, deserve their own disciplinary action.
- As the discussion around CBA talks heats up, the biggest question on anyone's mind is if the salary cap will continue to rise. The NHL has seen record revenues and a success with its expansion team, how will that translate into the new CBA agreement?
- The Ottawa Senators have been in the NHL's top-16 rankings for a few weeks now and this week they've earned themselves a step ahead into the 15th spot.
- Luckily, Sens fans haven't been too close to the action of the upcoming draft. It seems the talks about a potential first overall draft have started and all the initial hype is about Matthew Schaefer, thanks to Bob McKenzie's strong support for the Canadian defenceman.
- ESPN has the Ottawa Senators with a 68.5% chance of making the playoffs stating that they still have some work to do but even more entertaining; a potential matchup with the Florida Panthers. Imagine the Tkachuk brothers battle in the playoffs.
- If Team Canada had a goaltending issue at the 4-Nations tournament, Logan Thompson may be watching on the TV with a little smirk. The rising goaltender spoke this week in an interview that he never heard from Team Canada about a potential spot and is convinced that he won't hear from them even if an injury comes in play.
