Tonight's Leafs-Senators game postponed
This morning's events in Ottawa have rocked our community. The NHL has correctly postponed tonight's game.
When I'm not writing about sports I spend a lot of time writing about contemporary war commemoration and the Unknown Soldier is central to that work. It's a powerful commemorative symbol from the First World War and it's been part of our capital landscape for 14 years.
The Unknown Soldier tradition started in allied nations as an attempt to comprehend loss on a previously unimaginable scale as soon as that war was over. Today, we struggle with the loss of another unknown soldier, a reservist standing ceremonial guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We'll know his name soon enough but his loss is no less tragic, no less significant because he doesn't represent thousands of others. He went downtown to do his job this morning, like so many of us, and was killed for doing it. Another unknown soldier is one too many.
Silver Seven's thoughts are with his family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
Tonight's game between the Leafs and Senators has been postponed, thankfully. If you want to talk, let's talk in this thread. I hope you're all safe.
