Ultimate Sens Twitter Bracket Tournament: Round of 16
16 of the top tweets from Sens Twitter have been eliminated, but 16 still remain. Which do you think deserves to move on to the quarter finals?
On to the round of 16!
If you missed the previous article on Friday, what this series is doing is getting readers (and preferably active Twitter users) to vote on what the best tweets of “Sens Twitter” are. This bracket started out with 32, and after voting after the weekend, only 16 remain.
Here is how the bracket looks heading into the round of 16:

After all of the voting is done, here is how the next round shakes out!
Matchup 1: “Zibanejad/MacLean gif” vs. “Murray Glasses”
The Zibanejad/MacLean gif did extremely well in the first round, but it’s up against some tough competition with another elite gif. I honestly don’t even know which one I would vote for here.
I can't stop watching this ZIbanejad/MacLean .gif. It's incredible. http://t.co/hmnVpIkmMd

Maybe if I put my Bryan Murray glasses on this game will look better pic.twitter.com/JSttIhsJ5U

Who wins?
Zibanejad/MacLean gif | 96 |
Murray glasses | 102 |
Matchup 2: “Condra Hands” vs. “Imitating Mirtle”
Chet was one of the lower seeds, but that doesn’t mean he can’t go far in the bracket. His tweet easily beat “euh,” which may be a case of non-twitter users not totally being in on the recurring joke. Callum’s mocking of Mirtle beat out Capital Gains optimistic video because who likes optimism?
DOCTOR: there is an experimental option.. hand transplants. but i have to warn you-

STONE: i don't care. do it.
*door opens*
CONDRA: hey man
Eastern Conference Final is going to get pretty darn interesting if the Pens keep struggling. Could the Bruins, Panthers or Leafs win it?
— Callum Fraser (@CallumFraser18) May 10, 2017
Who wins?
Condra hands | 89 |
Imitating Mirtle | 96 |
Matchup 3: “Politicians slandering Karlsson” vs. “Nailed it”
“Come on you pesky ____’s” from bRian5or6 suffered a huge upset, as he lost in devastating fashion by one vote to Sensfeld. He’ll be going up against another higher seed, as the voters liked Mark Stone’s quote tweet a lot. Should be an interesting matchup.

Nailed it https://t.co/l5aXEQxgY5
— Mark Stone (@MStoner61) June 5, 2015
Who wins?
Politicians slandering Karlsson | 62 |
Nailed it | 116 |
Matchup 4: “No Rings for Matthews” vs. “Drouin for Ceci Straight up”
Clearly Senators fans love tweets involving trashing the Leafs, as this wasn’t the only tweet like that. Facing off against Bonk is the more “sophisticated” joke about Cody Ceci, as “Caca Peepee” was defeated by Phil’s Drouin for Ceci recurring joke. Both great candidates.
This is the closest he'll ever get to a cup ring in Toronto. https://t.co/mEW9DqPbkC

hockey players like to come up with clever names for each other, like Mark ‘Stoner’ Stone, Mike ‘Hoff’ Hoffman and Cody ‘Drouin For’ Ceci
— phil (@sixesandevans) May 12, 2017
Who wins?
No rings for Matthews | 95 |
Drouin for Ceci straight up | 84 |
Matchup 5: “Craziest 15 Minutes Ever” vs. “Pageauuuu”
This matchup is different because they are two completely different genres. The first gif isn’t Ottawa specific, but it’s an absolute classic. On the other hand, SensChirp’s Pageau tweet is always great to RT if Jean-Gabriel Pageau does anything noteworthy against the Montreal Canadiens. I’m curious to see what people prefer.

A Habs fan wakes up in a cold sweat. In the distance, the faintest sound. A whisper, grows steadily louder..Paaageau, Pageau, Pageau, Pageau
— SensChirp (@SensChirp) March 7, 2015
Who wins?
Craziest 15 minutes ever | 57 |
Pageauuuu | 126 |
Matchup 6: “Lace em up” vs. “Phaneuf has More Goals”
I think “lace em up” has to be one of the favourites now. You don’t even have to be a twitter user to find it funny, plus everyone enjoys it when Adnan gets flak from people. Don’t sleep on James’ Phaneuf tweet though, because like I said: Sens fans love trashing the Leafs. So who knows.
@sens_adnan remember the last time you laced up a pair of skates? Yeah me neither man.

Dion Phaneuf has more goals than any defensemen on the Toronto Maple Leafs pic.twitter.com/OXGGTsAkMp
— James Creighton (@ThatFishCreigh) February 17, 2017
Who wins?
Lace em up | 129 |
Phaneuf has more goals | 51 |
Matchup 7: “Giant Head Dude” vs. “Take a Shot for Mark Stone”
Despite not everyone knowing about giant head dude, it did surprisingly well in the first round. Ed is up against Roman, who is the third tweet in the final 16 that is about the Leafs. Hmm...comically large heads or trashing the Leafs...tough one.

Drinking game: do a shot every time Mark Stone does something that would result in three days of discussion if Auston Matthews did it.
— Roman (@BadNewsJays) January 18, 2017
Who wins?
Giant head dude | 74 |
Take a shot for Stone | 108 |
Matchup 8: “Daddy Phillips” vs. “Celine Dion”
Daddy Phillips won in a landslide over “Condon is no fluke,” but I guess that makes sense if some people voting aren’t active twitter users and they never see how often Arpon Basu’s tweet gets RT’d. Turris’ tweet of Capital Gains’ photoshop is still great though, and it goes up against Kevin Lee’s masterful (and well timed) Celine Dion celebration.

Who wins?
Daddy Phillips | 106 |
Celine Dion | 75 |
Check back on Wednesday night for the results! The quarter finals will be up on Thursday morning.
