As a contributing writer here at Silver Seven, I can't overstate the void left behind in Spencer Blake's absence. Beyond his jovial personality and witty style, Spencer HUSTLED for this site. A lot of our recent success traces right back to Big Spender and I make no claims that anyone alone can fill his shoes. However, the show must go on, as someone may have once said, and we will continue covering the Ottawa Senators, Belleville Senators, and affiliated prospects just like we always have (only differently).

Ottawa Senators? We still write about them. As we promised upon re-launching the site independently, we provide all the content we used to plus some other fun one-offs. Belleville Senators? Well, we got really spoiled in the past, as I said, with Spencer's coverage. I don't want to promise recaps of every single BSens contest until I know we can cash that cheque. We will still, however, provide thorough updates at least weekly on all things Belleville Senators-related for what has the potential to be a fruitful season for Ottawa's AHL affiliate.

Affiliated prospects? We'll still provide regular updates from the CHL, NCAA/USHL, and Europe for all of Ottawa's junior players. We might tinker with the format and frequency of these updates to ensure that readers get the most meaningful coverage, and maybe less heavily focused on stat updates.

So, our ask to you today: as always, we would love to hear your feedback on our AHL/prospects coverage because you make this site successful with your continued support. Let us know in the comments section below what you've liked about our coverage in the past, and anything else you might like to see.

I expect an interesting season with the arrival of a bona fide blue chip prospect in Carter Yakemchuk. I'll personally keep especially close tabs on newcomers Javon Moore and Blake Montgomery. My peers also seem pretty intrigued by Gabriel Eliasson and Luke Ellinas. Saying goodbye to Kevin Mandolese, Egor Sokolov, and Roby Järventie still stings. Xavier Bourgault, Jake Chiasson, and Jan Jenik should provide some intrigue this season though along with the aforementioned 2024 draftees. Also keep an eye on the likes of Angus Crookshank, Maxence Guenette, and Tyler Kleven as potential graduates depending how the NHL roster shakes out.

Other than that, I look forward to the upcoming prospect challenge, training camp in general, and obviously the start of another season of Ottawa Senators hockey. We haven't had a prospect pool to write home about for a couple years now and, as we've written ad nauseum, nothing short of a playoff berth will justify the dearth of top-end young talent in the organization this year. Either way we can enjoy our own internal observations about the players in Ottawa's system on off days or after painful losses for the parent team. Hell knows how many players I have tracked for years who amounted to absolutely nothing in Ottawa. Apparently it's not the destination but the journey. Next thing I'll be telling to that hockey is a zero-sum game--ha!
