Weekly Question: Favourite One-Year Sens

There are hundreds of players who have played in games for the Ottawa Senators, and the majority of them are forgotten about within a few years. Some only play for one season, even if they are well-liked by the majority of fans. So that got me thinking: who are some players that most of the fanbase likes that only played here for one season?

I'll expand my restrictions so that if a player played over the course of two years but played less than a full 82 games, that counts. Also keep in mind that with this exercise I want you to say who your favourite was when he was on the team. I thought about listing a guy like Ben Bishop, but he only played 23 games and wasn't as good as he has become in Tampa Bay. He could be your favourite, but I didn't feel it was necessary to list him.

It was harder than I thought to find players who fit this description, but let's look at some possible candidates:

Jakob Silfverberg

This is the guy that got me thinking about this article idea. It seems like he was here for so much longer than one season because he was a highly touted prospect for a few years, but he was only in the organization from 2009-2013. He posted a modest 19 points in 48 games in his rookie season, although I think most fans at the time liked his game. Plus, how can you not root for a guy who has his own chant?

Ales Hemsky

I think people forget that Hemsky was ever on the Senators, but he did in fact play 20 games with the team in the forgettable 2013-14 season. It was sad to see him go after he had 17 points in 20 games and amazing chemistry with Jason Spezza. It's ironic that after the team had finally found Spezza a winger, they both moved to Dallas just a few months later.

It's hard not to look back fondly on the Hemsky era, especially when he provided highlight reels like this:

Guillaume Latendresse

Latendresse was a low-risk signing, and there was some hope that he could be a decent second line player with Ottawa. He showed flashes of being a good player, but his biggest claim to fame was making up one-third of the infamous "Zibby's Five Guys Silfverburger's and Fries" line.

He certainly wasn't a great player for Ottawa, but he was entertaining to watch, and there was almost always something interesting that he would do in a game.

Dominik Hasek

Now, some fans may hate him because he got injured and ruined the Senators chances of winning a Cup in 2006. But if you look at what he did in half of a season at the age of 40 by posting a .925 SV%, it's remarkable. He's the greatest goalie of all-time in my opinion, and he played for the Ottawa Senators. I think that's pretty cool to say, even if his injury will haunt us for years to come.

He was an absolute treat to watch.

Mike Comrie

I always had an affinity towards Comrie for some reason. He played for the Senators in two different stints late in the season both times, although he was much more valuable (and needed) in 2007 than he was in 2009. He managed 25 points in 41 games in 2006-07, and was a very solid addition to a forward group that needed some depth. I don't know if his skill was something that made me love him so much, but I remember being so happy when they re-acquired him.

The second stint was just as long as the first one though, and he was out of the NHL just two years later. Nevertheless, I'll never forget Comrie from the 2006-07 team.

Kaspars Daugavins

Daugavins was never really an NHL caliber player, but boy was he entertaining. He was loved in Binghamton during their Calder Cup run, and he'll forever be remembered as the guy that tried to score a shootout goal with the toe of his stick:

Plus, just look at how the guy celebrates his goals. It's so incredibly stupid and I love it. The Daug man won't be forgotten.

Shane Prince

You knew he was going to be on the list, just to stir things up in the comments. He wasn't a star or anything, but his skill and speed was fun to watch.
