Weekly Question: What Comes Next?
A message from the Site Manager about what to expect for the next little while
These are not ordinary times. When I took over as the Site Manager from the esteemed Ross, I realized that this season would present some challenges: the Ottawa Senators were not likely to be much good, the attendance bugaboo and all of its causes had not gone away, and of course the persistent dark cloud of Ownership hung over everything. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be presiding over the site as the whole world shut down in the face of an epidemic.
I don’t mean to make the issue more dramatic than it really is: this is an Ottawa Senators fan site, we are firmly in the hobby/entertainment category. Yet as we all know, sports and life in the outside world are intertwined in all sorts of messy ways. Pretending that nothing is amiss is simply not an option. Today’s unusual Weekly Question, normally a fun attempt at getting the debate juices going, is a reflection of our changed paradigm.
I want to take this opportunity to explain the vision for the site during this shutdown, as well as to solicit some input. We pride ourselves on our community here at Silver Seven Sens.
While the games have stopped, we will be reducing our output. There is simply no way around that, and I think it is important to be up front about it. At the same time, there are several recurring features that will continue to run:
- Monday and Thursday editions of Links, News, and Notes
- Wednesday’s Long-form piece
- Five Thoughts for Friday
- Weekly Question on Saturday/
In addition, we will continue to provide coverage of any breaking news. As a staff, we’ve also been discussing some fun topics we’d like to sink our teeth into. You can look forward to some interesting and quirky angles on stories.
But this is also where you come in. Right now, more than ever, we have the time to get into some fun pet topics. What do you want to read about? We’ve love to hear about it in the comments. A Sens Rewind series where we re-visit classic games? A ranking of the team’s best social media moments? A retrospective on Ian Cole’s illustrious career as an Ottawa Senator? Anything is possible.
I know this is just a Sens fan site, but we’ve been a destination and a community for an awful lot of folks over the years. I, and the rest of the staff, take that seriously. Even in these strange times, we look forward to spending time with you.
Stay safe everyone.
