Yabo and Derek Smith re-up with the Senators

The Ottawa Senators just announced they've re-signed winger Jeremy Yablonski and defenceman Derek Smith. Both players suited up for Binghamton last season and signed one-year, two-way contracts. In the same release, the Sens announced the signings of forwards Keegan Dansereau and Brandon Svendsen to amateur tryout contracts.

Smith has spent his entire professional career in the Senators system, playing one game for Elmira of the ECHL in 2007-08 and 127 for Bingo. In his AHL career, Smith has 9G and 28A plus 67PIM. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

Yablonski has jumped around the minor-pro leagues, and is well known for his fighting abilities. He's also a dual athlete, playing pro hockey and doing some UFC fighting in the past. He's led the B-Sens in penalty minutes for both seasons he's been with the team, with 228PIM in 2007-08 and 215PIM in 2008-09. That means he's averaging over 3PIM per game. He's got one fight in one NHL game (with St. Louis in 2002-03), but we're still waiting on him to suit up for the Senators.

Dansereau put up solid numbers with the WHL's Swift Current Broncos last season, scoring 37G, 44A, and 81P in 69GP. Svendsen finished his NCAA career with Bowling Green last season and then joined the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, putting up 19P (4G, 15A) in 11GP during his first stint of pro hockey.

Depth moves, to say the least.
